VoIP voice mail system to be upgraded Sept. 10-11

August 12, 2010

Penn State's Information Technology Services (ITS) will be upgrading the University Park VoIP (voice over internet protocol) voice mail service starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10. During this time, individuals who use the VoIP Voice Mail service and Single Digit Menu service will experience periodic interruptions until noon on Saturday, Sept. 11.

The system is undergoing a major upgrade. In order to mitigate risk and reduce the amount of time the voice mail and single digit menu services are unavailable, ITS technicians will not be able to transfer existing voice mail messages received or saved prior to 6 p.m. on Sept. 10. However, individual user settings, such as greetings, single-digit menu options and schedules all will be transferred to the new system. Any changes to recorded greetings should be made prior to 5 p.m. on Sept. 10.

Once the upgrade is complete, any new voice messages (received and saved after Sept. 11) can be accessed through the regular voice mail number 814-865-4090. VoIP users will be able to retrieve and access their older voice mail messages (saved on the legacy system) by dialing 814-865-2211 or 5-2211 via their VoIP phone. Penn State plans to retain old voice mail messages on the legacy system until Dec. 31.

Additional instructions will be made available a week prior to the upgrade date.
