Frederick Michel named chief medical officer of Hershey Medical Group

Frederick J. Michel will serve as chief medical officer of Penn State Hershey Medical Group effective in September. Michel obtained his medical degree from the College of Medicine in 1971 and completed his first year residency in Internal Medicine at Penn State in 1972. He brings a wealth of experience in medical group practice leadership, having served in a number of capacities.

From 1986 to 1997, Michel was the medical director of Bassett Regional Operations/The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in New York. Following that he served as chief medical officer for 11 years of the Lexington Clinic in Lexington, Ky., where he managed a 153-physician, multi-specialty organization with regional health centers, multiple hospital affiliations, and 550,000 patient encounters per year.

In his role as chief medical officer, Michel will have overall responsibility for all ambulatory clinical activities affiliated with the Medical Center.
