Women's soccer hosts invitational, looks to break attendance record

University Park, Pa. The 12th-ranked Nittany Lion women's soccer hosts No. 15 Virginia in the fifth annual Penn State Invitational beginning Friday at 7:30 p.m. Penn State is looking to break the single-game attendance record by having 4,500 fans enter Jeffrey Field on Friday. UConn and William & Mary open the tournament at 5:00 p.m.

Penn State hosts Virginia at Jeffrey Field for the third time in 12 months as the Cavaliers enter Friday with a 2-0-0 record. The spirited rivalry saw the teams split their two encounters last season.

Friday is "Be a Part of the 4,500" promotion with poster and magnet giveaways and a halftime game between the Caribbean Student Association and the Black Student Association. Students are encouraged to join Nittany Nation in the East Stands opposite the team benches as well.

The Penn State Invitational also features Connecticut and William & Mary, who face off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. On Sunday, Virginia and UConn face off at Noon, while Penn State and William & Mary play at 2:30 p.m.

Sunday is Student Pizza Day, while Penn State honors Centre Soccer Association. Fans are also welcome to join the team afterward for a post-game autograph session below the Jeffrey Field bleachers.

PARKING ADVISORY (Friday, August 27)
Fans attending Friday night's games are advised to use the grass lots adjacent to Jeffrey Field for parking. This lot can be accessed from the Park Avenue entrance next to Beaver Stadium West Lot. There is a State College Spikes game going on that same night at nearby Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, which charges $3, but Penn State Invitational fans are not subject to this. Tell the parking attendant you are attending the soccer matches and you will be able to park for free in the grass lot.
