Continuing Education offers health care management certificate

The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education is offering a certificate program in health care management. The program is designed to meet the immediate educational needs of people currently working in health care, those seeking further professional development in health care management, and/or those entering health care from another management field. Beaver will offer the certificate program in condensed-format evening classes from 5:30 to 8:45 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, October 2010 through November 2011, at the Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania located in Thorn Hill Industrial Park, Warrendale, Pa.

Seven courses (22 credits) will provide a deeper understanding of the principles of management, health care financing, legal aspects of business, and the development, organization, and evaluation of a health care facility or department. Courses to be offered are Introduction to Health Services Organization, Basic Management Concepts, Financial and Managerial Accounting for Decision Making, Health Systems Management, Legal Environment of Business, Introductory Microeconomic Analysis and Policy, and Financing Health Care.
