Two Penn State alumni join IST Advisory Board

The College of Information Sciences and Technology is pleased to welcome two Penn State alumni to its advisory board. Beth Jones and Matt Schuyler both are professionals in their fields who have gained decades of information technology experience.

“These two distinguished new members will assist with promoting the College’s strategic advancement,” said Joyce Matthews, IST’s director of development and alumni relations. “They join a small number of selected individuals from across the nation and from diverse career paths, all of whom provide counsel, advice, mentorship and support to the College and our students.”

Jones is the public liaison officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and lives in northern Virginia. Before her federal position, she worked for 25 years in various corporate and operational positions for United Airlines across the country. She also taught secondary English and communications. Her bachelor of arts in English is from Lebanon Valley College and she has a master of arts in American studies from Penn State. Jones has been active with the Penn State Alumni Association in Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C.

“Beth is a third-generation Penn Stater with a nephew who is an engineering student,” Matthews said. “She is a former educator who is very excited to be connected to her alma mater through the College of IST where she is planning to establish a scholarship in her family names -- spanning all three generations.”

Schuyler, from Mclean, Va., is the chief human resources officer at Hilton Worldwide. Prior to that position, he worked as the chief human resources officer at Capital One Financial Corporation. He has a master of business administration from the University of Michigan and a degree in business administration from Penn State. Currently, Schuyler is a member of the board of directors of Greater DC Cares and the Washington Humane Society.

Said Matthews of Schuyler, “Matt is an alum and life-long supporter of Penn State. He has been a member of the alumni association since graduation and serves on the Board of Visitors for the Smeal College of Business. Among other activities, while at Penn State, Matt was a Lion Ambassador, involved with student government and a member of Parmi Nous.”

The IST Advisory Board, which is comprised of top-level executives throughout the country, is a source of business and industry expertise and ensures that IST’s programs are in tune with current and future trends in information sciences and technology. The IST Advisory Board also provides leadership in the College’s “For the Future” campaign efforts and assists with developing career opportunities for students and advancing connections between the College and industry and government.
