S-Plan Program's fall program series to kick off on Sept. 9

S-Plan (Support, Survival and Success), a wellness-focused mentoring program for African-American and Latino students at Penn State, will kick off their fall program series with "Little Lion, Big Valley: Welcome to University Park" on Thursday, Sept. 9. The program will be held in East Halls Cultural Lounge (103 Johnston Commons) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and is co-sponsored by the Multicultural Resource Center.

This "meet and greet" event will provide an opportunity for first-year, transfer and change-of-campus students to connect with upperclassmen of color at University Park. Students also will learn more about S-Plan and campus resources.

"All students are invited to attend the first program. S-Plan provides a great opportunity for students of color to learn about how they can be successful at Penn State." said Katherine Wheatle, the community health educator who oversees the S-Plan Program.

The S-Plan Fall Program Series will continue with "Pitfalls of PSU" on Thursday, Sept. 23. Additional programs will be held on Oct. 14 and 28, and Nov. 11.  The programs are sponsored by University Health Services (UHS).

S-Plan promotes the mental and physical health of African-American and Latino students. The program assists new students with their adjustment to University Park by helping them manage stress they may experience in their first year.
