Penn State seeks candidates for dean of the Smeal College of Business

Penn State is seeking candidates for the position of the Elizabeth L. and John P. Surma Jr. dean of the Smeal College of Business. The dean serves as principal academic leader and chief executive officer of the Smeal College of Business and reports directly to the executive vice president and provost of the University.

The dean is responsible for the quality of academic programs in teaching, research and service; strategic planning; budgeting; fund-raising; faculty and staff development; and alumni and outreach relations. The position requires an individual who can lead effectively and manage a large and complex college in a multicampus research university. Candidates should have significant academic understanding of the fields of study commonly included in a college of business with credentials appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of professor. Prior leadership experience with responsibility for strategic management of personnel, programs, and resources is required, along with an ability to inspire students and faculty to expand their knowledge and understanding in a multicultural, global perspective. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Smeal College offers highly ranked undergraduate, master of business administration, master of science, doctoral and executive education opportunities to more than 5,000 students. Featuring academic departments of Accounting, Finance, Insurance and Real Estate, Management and Organization, Marketing, and Supply Chain and Information Systems, the Smeal College also is home to the Ferrell Center for Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Center for Global Business Study, the Center for Research in Conflict and Negotiation, the Center for Supply Chain Research, the Center for the Management of Technology and Organizational Change, the Institute for the Study of Business Markets, the Institute for Real Estate Studies, and Penn State Executive Programs. The Smeal College is based in the Business Building, a 210,000 square foot signature building dedicated in 2005.
