Campus' new Veterans Club holds panel lunch

To recognize the service and sacrifices of military, members of Penn State Brandywine’s newly formed Veterans Club will hold the club’s inaugural event this Veteran’s Day, Thursday, Nov. 11. There will be a panel discussion followed by questions and answers, and lunch will be provided. Veterans from both the campus and the wider community will be on hand, and the event is free and open to everyone. It will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Tomezsko Building lounge.

“The Veterans Day ceremony to honor the veterans on our campus and out in the community is the very least we can do to give a little support back for all of their hard work and service to our country," said Stacey Shapiro, counselor at Penn State Brandywine, who along with Athletic Director Jim Gastner is acting as adviser of the new club.

The students hope that the new club will engage all veterans on campus and give them opportunities to connect and share information with each other. The club also will welcome “affiliates” --f riends and family members of veterans.

“There are many students on campus that can benefit from the support of the other club members,” said Shapiro.

Senior Daniel DiNardis and freshmen Rich McCash and Steven Kan are helping to organize the event and get the club up and running. DiNardis is a business major, McCash is studying organizational leadership and Kan plans to study neurosciene.

Freshman Kristin Collins, a nursing major, and senior Romana Frederick, an elementary education major, are also part of the effort and are helping to personally contact students to make them aware of the club.

“Jim Gastner and I are very excited to be the co-advisers for this club,” said Shapiro. “It has been wonderful to work with the student veterans.”
