S-Plan to host sexual assault awareness program

S-Plan (Support, Survival, and Success), a wellness-focused mentoring program for African-American and Latino students at Penn State, will host "When No Means No Part 3: The Male Perspective" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center Memorial Lounge.

Co-sponsored by the Center for Women Students, the program is designed to create a safe space so that participants can engage in interactive small group discussions. Discussion topics will include how gender role norms and misconceptions contribute to sexual assault and the importance of consent and how obtaining it is the responsibility of both partners.

“Sexual assault and rape are serious issues in our campus communities. It is vital to begin debunking myths and misconceptions about these topics and give students the information to make healthy decisions and respect the rights of their partner and themselves," said Tyrone Reese, S-Plan graduate assistant.

S-Plan promotes the mental and physical health of African-American and Latino students. The program assists new students with their adjustment to University Park by helping them manage stress they may experience in their first year.
