Beaver alumna will be fall commencement speaker

Kimberly J. Kockler, a Penn State Beaver alumna, will be the guest speaker at the campus' fall commencement ceremonies at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, in the Student Union Building auditorium. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Penn State.

Kockler is vice president of government affairs for Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA) and guides the team serving as the company’s liaison to state and federal lawmakers and regulators. In addition, she oversees tracking and analysis of health care as well as health insurance legislation and regulations and advocates public policy positions on behalf of BCNEPA in Harrisburg, Pa., and Washington, D.C. Kockler, who also is responsible for BCNEPA’s political action committee, joined the company in 2000 and was named vice president in 2006.

Recently, she was named to the governor’s Health Care Reform Advisory Implementation Committee which represents Pennsylvania’s four Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans.

Prior to joining BCNEPA, Kockler was executive director of the Managed Care Association of Pennsylvania, a statewide trade association representing the interests of the state’s major HMOs. She also was a government affairs representative for Delta Development Group, Inc., a private consulting firm based in central Pennsylvania that specialized in economic development and health care consulting. Kockler began her career working for the Pennsylvania state legislature as an information specialist for the House of Representatives and a research analyst in the Senate.
