New staff member developing internships and job opportunities

November 18, 2010

Stephanie DeMaro was named recently to the post of regional job and internship developer for the Penn State campuses of Beaver, DuBois, Fayette, Greater Allegheny, New Kensington and Shenango.

Based at the Beaver campus, DeMaro works with area employers as well as career services staff, faculty and campus administrators on employer development, job and internship development, and facilitation of employer involvement with campuses, students and alumni. She works out of the career services offices at each campus.

"Stephanie networks with employers on behalf of the campuses to generate leads and opportunities for internships and jobs for students and graduates," said Jim Shields, coordinator of career services at the New Kensington campus. "She also brings companies to campus for career days and other events."

DeMaro's focus is on developing employer relationships by regionalizing the six campuses. Promoting the campuses as a single unit increases the mutual benefits for employers and students.

"Employers have access to more of our talented Penn State students," said DeMaro, a Penn State alumna, "and students have access to more employers for internships and future employment opportunities."

DeMaro worked as an educational adviser, program assistant, counselor, and liaison for the EOC of Southwestern Pennsylvania. She also served as director of the Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh Education Services Department and was an assistant director of admissions at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In addition, she was a family support consultant for the Head Start Family Child Care Center Partnership Program of the Allegheny County Intermediate Unit. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication disorders from Penn State and is enrolled in the master’s of education program at the University of Pittsburgh.
