Postdoctoral accomplishments celebrated at ninth annual Data & Dine

Postdoctoral scholars and fellows and faculty of Penn State College of Medicine gathered on Nov. 9 at the University Conference Center for the ninth annual Data & Dine, a combined poster session and social occasion designed to highlight the research accomplishments of postdoctoral trainees and to provide an opportunity for interactions among postdocs and faculty. The evening was very successful, as demonstrated by the intense scientific discussions around the posters on display.

The 2010 Outstanding Postdoctoral Award was presented to Hanning You, postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of C. Bart Rountree, pediatrics. Yan Cheng, pharmacology and Cancer Institute, and Greg Lewis, orthopaedics and rehabilitation, also received certificates acknowledging their accomplishments as postdoctoral scholars. A certificate for Best Poster Presentation, based on evaluations by faculty, was presented to Zurab Tsetskhladeze, pathology.

The 2010 Faculty Mentorship Award was presented to Craig Meyers, professor of microbiology and immunology. In his role as professor, Meyers is heavily involved in science education at the state, national and international level and is recognized as a leading researcher in the fields of both virology and cancer. He also maintains extensive interactions with his students and postdocs and takes time to discuss individual research problems. In his acceptance remarks, Meyers acknowledged the importance of his own mentors in his career and their effect on his commitment to the career of the younger scientists working with him.

Data & Dine is hosted by the Penn State Hershey Postdoctoral Society and sponsored by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. The members of the planning committee of the Postdoctoral Society are Brian Barth, pharmacology, Deepa Kolaseri Krishnadas, pediatrics, Vishkantha Murthy, pharmacology, and Patricia Silveyra, pediatrics.
