Cystric Fibrosis team collaborates with nine others on project

For the past five months, members of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Team at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center have been involved in a national Learning and Leadership Collaborative through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Penn State Hershey team was one of only 10 centers nationwide chosen to be part of this interdisciplinary project, which bridges teams through interactive electronic and phone meetings, as well as face-to-face meetings throughout the year.

Based in Dartmouth’s microsystems theory, the team has worked to improve care of adults with cystic fibrosis through targeted interventions based on national benchmarking data. Screening for cystic fibrosis-related diabetes has been the focus for the majority of the project thus far, but with the energy the team gained following the 23rd annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference this past October, the focus will shift to include improving inpatient care as well.
