University appoints director of summer session

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Yaw Agawu-Kakraba, formerly a faculty member in Spanish at Penn State Altoona, has been named director of the University's Office for Summer Session, effective Jan. 1, 2011.

As director, Agawu-Kakraba will be responsible for general oversight of the University's summer session and increasing the creative programming and effective use of summer session. He will work to develop effective collaborations with academic colleges and Outreach units at University Park to develop, coordinate and market summer course offerings and scheduling; communicate information to students, faculty and advisers about integrating summer session into students' study plans; and serve as a central point of contact on summer session at the campus.

Agawu-Kakraba has been on the faculty at the Altoona campus since 1998, where he taught a wide range of courses and served as the Coordinator of the minor in Spanish. In addition, he has served on the University Faculty Senate. He holds a doctorate in Hispanic languages, literatures and cultures from Cornell University,  a master's degree in Spanish from the University of Alberta, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Ghana.
