Jazz lights up Schwab

University Park, Pa. -- The John Scofield and Joe Lovano Quartet performed on stage in Schwab Auditorium on Penn State's University Park campus on Thursday, Jan. 27. Approximately 500 patrons gathered for the Center for the Performing Arts (CPA) jazz concert, which featured Scofield on guitar, Bill Stewart on drums, Matt Penman on bass and Lovano on saxophones.

While the center strives to bring quality entertainment to the University Park campus, it also has a strong educational mission, which was evident on Thursday. Before taking the stage for the concert, the quartet held an open rehearsal and sound check, available to anyone from the area. Members of Penn State's jazz ensembles and faculty were among those in attendance for that session. In addition, CPA held an Artistic Viewpoints session about an hour before the show, featuring Scofield and Lovano in a question-and-answer session for ticket-holders.
