A humanities-based approach to working with incarcerated women and men

This month's Humanities First Fridays lecture at Penn State College of Medicine will feature Irene Baird, affiliate assistant professor in education and director of Women's Enrichment Center at Penn State Harrisburg, at noon on Feb. 4, in the Junker Auditorium. The Women's Enrichment Center runs programs at prisons in Dauphin County. Using a humanities-based writing program, women in prison are led to read and discuss texts written by Maya Angelou, Patrice Gaines and Ilyana Vanzant. As they process the narratives, they write about personal insights gained from the readings.

This program is free and open to the public. No registration required. For more information, call the Department of Humanities at 717-531-8778. CME credit is available for physicians and nurses.
