SGA blood drive will benefit THON efforts

February 11, 2011

The Penn State Beaver Student Government Association will sponsor a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Student Union Building Lodge. In addition, the American Red Cross will donate $4 to the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) for every presenting donor at the campus. These funds will be used to provide support for pediatric cancer patients and their families through The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.

The American Red Cross continues to emphasize the fact that giving blood is completely safe and reliable, and notes that someone receives a unit of blood somewhere every two seconds.

Walk-in appointments are welcome. Donors who prefer to make an appointment should contact Denise Turyan, staff assistant in the Office of Student Affairs, at or 724-773-3953. In addition, donors can also register or obtain more information about the mission of the American Red Cross by visiting For information about THON, visit For directions to Beaver campus, visit and click on "About Us."
