Men's basketball team wins PSUAC, women take second place

On Wednesday, Feb. 23, the Penn State Beaver men's basketball team captured their third consecutive PSUAC Championship when they defeated Penn College, 76-73, in overtime at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State's University Park campus. The Beaver women's team entered the tournament undefeated in the PSUAC but lost their bid for first place when they fell to Penn State Brandywine, 57-54, and ended the season as the PSUAC runner-up.

In the men’s game, Beaver led at halftime, 31-25. In the second half, Beaver lost the lead, but came back to tie Penn College with 9 seconds remaining, taking the game into overtime and winning by 3 points.

In the women’s game, Beaver led Brandywine at halftime, 32-22, and held the lead for most of the second half. However, late in the second half, Brandywine came back to take the lead. The game came down to the last shot with Brandywine in the lead by 3 points. Beaver moved the ball the length of the court with 6 seconds remaining, but the 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Beaver’s men’s team has held the PSUAC Championship since 2009 under the leadership of Head Coach Marcess Williams. The women, led by Head Coach Bert DeSalvo, won the title in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Both teams are headed to the USCAA Tournament to be held March 1-5 at Penn State Fayette.
