Adults can learn about Penn State education opportunities at events

Penn State Continuing Education is hosting two enrollment information sessions for adults living in central Pennsylvania this month. Sessions will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, at Schlow Memorial Library in State College and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, at the Penn State Williamsport Center in the Water Tower Square Complex in Williamsport.

During these free, informative events, area adults and their families can talk with Penn State staff members who are experienced in helping adult learners get started on their education or complete a degree. Staff members also will help adults learn what they can expect as adult learners in a Penn State program.

Admissions Counselor Meg Abplanalp, who is coordinating the State College event, encourages adults interested in exploring their education options to attend an information session. Whether adults already have some college credits or are ready to get started, "it's important to finish unfinished business, recognize your potential and learn how easy it is to fit education into your schedule."

James Guyton, an admissions counselor who is coordinating the Williamsport Center event, agrees. "We want adults to know that Penn State is in their area, especially since the center has moved to a new location," Guyton said. "We want them to keep education in the forefront of their mind, so that when they are ready, they will enroll at a Penn State location in their area."

At both sessions, participants will learn how to earn a credit certificate or an associate, bachelor's or master's degree and how to develop a part-time class schedule and create a workable educational plan that maximizes their time. Courses are offered in the evening at University Park campus and the Williamsport Center. Information also will be provided about the application process and financial aid, as well as using College-Level Examination Program tests to earn credits for prior learning.

Adults planning to attend a Continuing Education information session can register beginning 30 minutes before the event starts. Light refreshments will be served at both events.
