Institutional Research Interest Group panel discussion April 11

March 21, 2011

The newly-formed Penn State Institutional Research Interest Group will hold a panel discussion, titled "Building Institutional Research Capacity," from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on April 11 in room 508 of the Rider Building on the University Park campus. Panelists will include Mike Dooris of the Office of Planning and Institutional Assessment; Betty Harper of Student Affairs Research and Assessment; Frank Miller from Penn State York; and Marta Miguel, from Information Technology Services.

To register for this free event, call the Office of Planning and Institutional Assessment at 814-863-8721 or send an e-mail to Penn State campuses interested in participating via Adobe Connect should indicate their interest when they register. The event is open to all interested faculty members, staff, administrators and students.

The Penn State Institutional Research Interest group is guided by the belief that although there are many excellent data and analysis resources at Penn State, the University can do a better job of communication, collaboration, and sharing in the increasingly pertinent domain of institutional research. Our goal is to help those who produce, analyze and use data for planning and decision-making to do so more effectively. Topics already suggested include, for example, student surveys and analyses (PULSE, NSSE, student satisfaction); research on student transitions and success; research on student/faculty/staff use of wikis and blogs; resources such as Factbook Plus, the common data set, and IPEDS; Business Intelligence project updates and demonstrations; and Commonwealth Campus IR challenges and solutions.
