University Park, Pa. — Penn State's first NCAA Wrestling Championship in 58 years last month gives the Nittany Lions a nation's-best 10 national championships over the past four years.

Since March 2007, Penn State has won 10 NCAA Championships in five different sports, raising its all-time total to 68 national championships. The Nittany Lion women's volleyball team has won an unprecedented four consecutive NCAA crowns (2007, '08, '09, '10) and the men's and women's fencing teams have won three (2007, '08, '10) national titles.

The men's gymnastics (2007), men's volleyball (2008) and wrestling (2011) teams each have earned one NCAA Championship during the past four years.

Southern California (8), UCLA (7), Stanford and Arizona State (6) are just behind Penn State in national championships since March 2007, with Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Oregon and Texas A&M having won five titles to round out the top 10.

Among Big Ten Conference institutions, Wisconsin has won four NCAA titles since 2007. Iowa and Northwestern are next with three.

Since March 2007, Penn State also has won 18 Big Ten Championships or Tournament titles in nine sports. The Nittany Lions have won 68 Big Ten titles all-time.

In the latest Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, Penn State is No. 2 in the nation, trailing only Stanford. Sixteen Penn State teams have competed in their respective NCAA Championships thus far in 2010-11, with the men's and women's gymnastics teams poised to increase the total to 18 in April. Penn State has finished in the Top 25 of all 17 previous Directors' Cup compilations.
