The New Pittsburgh Courier has chosen Siobhan Brooks, Learning Center coordinator and academic counselor at Penn State Greater Allegheny as one of their 2011 “Fab 40” honorees.

In a congratulatory letter to Brooks, New Pittsburgh Courier editor and publisher Rod Doss stated, “Your actions and example are a clear signal to the Western Pennsylvania region that there is a cadre of committed young adults who have demonstrated ability, determination, focus and fortitude to tackle the challenges that lie ahead while defying the negative images that are so often used to portray Black youth; as such, you demonstrate to the community at large a ‘yes’, we can!’ spirit.”

“I am extremely honored to be recognized in this light,” said Brooks. “I will continue to mentor our youth to become our great leaders of tomorrow. The phrase ‘yes’, we can! Is true. I believe that there is not an obstacle that I cannot overcome,” she added.
Brooks will be honored on Friday, April 29, at a cocktail reception in the Upper Lobby of the U.S. Steel Tower. The newspaper also will publish a special commemorative section to showcase recipients’ accomplishments and contributions.
