IE student team raises $6,000 for Relay for Life

On April 8 and 9, undergraduate and graduate students from the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering participated in the seventh annual Penn State Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Due to generous donations from family, friends, faculty, staff and alumn,i the IE team was able to raise $6,000, making them the second largest fundraiser out of 156 teams in this year's event.

This is the fourth year that a team of industrial engineering students has participated in Relay for Life and they raised a grand total of $28,770 for the American Cancer Society during that time.

Each year the Relay campsites are decorated with a common theme and this year's theme was "Wish Upon a Cure." Disney-inspired sites were spread across the Penn State agriculture fields and despite heavy rain, cold temperatures and generally miserable conditions, team members persisted through the 24-hour event. A total of more than $97,000 was raised for the fight against cancer.

The 2011 Relay for Life Team IE members included: Joseph Hosler (captain), Chris Reese (captain), Paul Lynch, Lourdes Medina, David Sudit, John Diamond, Stephen Kutys, James Northington, Alvaro Parra, Andrea Amato, Mark Aniunas, Tim Bradley, Caitlin Cronk, Ryan Holleran, Seth Hostetler, Sean Kromer, Nora Nies, Trevor O’Brien, Azreen Othman, Sabrina Sabri, Guiseppe Screnci and Kangda Zhou.
