Faculty and staff portion of For the Future campaign begins

University Park, Pa. -- This month kicks off the faculty and staff portion of Penn State’s University-wide fundraising initiative, For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students.

The For the Future campaign is directed toward a shared vision of Penn State as the most comprehensive, student-centered research university in America. The University is engaging Penn State’s alumni and friends as partners in achieving the campaign’s goals and encourages faculty and staff to join their efforts.

John J. Romano, vice president for Commonwealth Campuses, emeritus, chairs the faculty and staff campaign. He noted that “faculty and staff have always been critical to the University’s fundraising efforts. Over the course of the Grand Destiny campaign (1966-2003), they showed extraordinary generosity, committing a total of $41 million to the University."

“The choice to give is always a personal, individual decision, but the need has never been greater,” Romano said. “Faculty and staff support sets an example for the greater community, demonstrating our dedication and encouraging others to give back. As we all prepare to make sacrifices during these extraordinary economic times, I encourage my colleagues to give whatever they can to help keep a Penn State education within reach for the students we serve.”

For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students is currently raising funds on behalf of six key objectives: ensuring student access and opportunity, enhancing honors education, enriching the student experience, building faculty strength and capacity, fostering discovery and creativity, and sustaining the University’s tradition of quality.

The campaign’s top priority is keeping a Penn State degree affordable for students and families. The For the Future campaign is the most ambitious effort of its kind in Penn State’s history, with the goal of securing $2 billion by 2014.
