Penn State librarians elected to ALA positions

Penn State Librarians will assume a number of leadership positions in the American Library Association (ALA) this year, following their successes in the organization’s 2011 election. Matthew Ciszek, head librarian of Lartz Memorial Library at Penn State Shenango, was elected one of 34 councilors-at-large. He will begin his term at the conclusion of the 2011 ALA Annual Conference this summer and serve through the end of the 2014 Annual Conference.

Paige Andrew, maps cataloging librarian, was voted in as treasurer of the Map and Geography Roundtable, while Ann Snowman, head of access services, was voted in as vice-chairperson/chairperson elect of the Library Leadership and Management Association Systems and Services Section. Science Librarian John Meier won the election for member-at-large of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Science and Technology Section and Ann Copeland was elected secretary of the ACRL Rare Books and Manuscripts Section.

The ALA is the oldest library organization in the world and has a membership of more than 62,000 librarians, library trustees and library supporters.
