License allows faculty, staff and students access to chronicle.com

Effective July 1, Penn State will hold an institutional license for The Chronicle of Higher Education, allowing all University faculty, staff and students to read the Chronicle's online content. The license not only gives the Penn State community access to important information, but it also achieves financial savings and contributes to the University's sustainability efforts.

Though the effective date of the contract has yet to pass, full access the Chronicle's online content already is in place. Anyone on a Penn State campus can visit chronicle.com without authentication. Those off-campus or who are not logging in from a computer with a Penn State IP address will need to authenticate via a Penn State server using their access account to establish a VPN secure connection. Once authenticated, access can be gained through the libraries link, at http://www.libraries.psu.edu/psul/home.html online. The link to the Chronicle also will be made available on the libraries' A-Z list as well as through the e-journals list.

In addition, faculty, staff and students who sign up for a free Chronicle account using their psu.edu email address will now be able to do the following when they visit http://www.chronicle.com/ online:

-- Access premium content from any location;

-- Access all content from a smartphone, tablet or any other mobile device with a Web browser;

-- Sign up for any of the free e-newsletters such as Academe Today, Chronicle Review, the Global Edition and others;

-- Sign up for job alerts;

-- Participate in Chronicle forums;

-- Comment on Chronicle articles;

-- Email Chronicle content to colleagues.

To create a free account, visit http://www.chronicle.com/ and click the "create" link in the top-right corner of the home page.
