Artist's reception June 30 for illustrator Mark Klingler

A reception for scientific illustrator Mark Klingler of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History is set to run from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 30, in the Art Gallery at Penn State New Kensington. The 45-piece, multi-media show, "Fur, Feathers and Fossils," covers a range of topics, from modern nature and wildlife to paleontology and scientific illustration. In his position as scientific illustrator, Klingler reconstructs extinct creatures from fossil organisms. To recreate an entire animal from fossil information, he works closely with scientists to compare the characteristics of the fossil to those of both modern and primitive animals. The reception and exhibit, which closes the same night, are free to the public. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
