Orientation for new graduate students set for Aug. 17

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A half-day orientation program for all new Penn State graduate students will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, in Room 100 of the Thomas Building on Penn State's University Park campus. Sessions during the orientation will cover topics such as using eLion and ANGEL, mentoring, and graduate student services and benefits.

The Graduate Student Services and Benefits session is mandatory for all new international graduate students. All graduate students, both international and domestic, on any form of assistance administered through the University are automatically enrolled in the graduate assistant benefits program that will be covered during this session.

Immediately following the orientation program, the Graduate School will host a reception in the lobby of the Kern Graduate Building beginning at 5 p.m. to welcome all new and returning graduate students to the new academic year. The reception is an opportunity for students to meet colleagues and members of the Penn State community, as well as to explore the various services offered by the University organizations that will be represented at the event. Among these are: Office of Student Aid, University Libraries, LGBTA Student Resource Center, Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, Center for Women Students, Graduate Student Association, ITS Training Services, the Graduate School Office of Fellowships and Awards Administration and the Graduate School Dean’s Office.
