Losing weight ... by using a cellphone?

Researchers at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center are testing the effectiveness of different cellphone-based programs designed to help people lose weight and lead healthier lifestyles. Volunteers are needed to participate in this program and attend assessment sessions.

Eligible participants should be aged 25 to 64; not currently exercising regularly; meet programs limits for body weight; live in Hershey, Hummelstown, Palmyra, Annville or Middletown; own a smartphone with email access; have access to a home computer with Internet access; and not currently be pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study period.

The research study, IRB 34103EP, has been approved by the Institutional Review Board, under federal regulations at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Penn State College of Medicine.
