Benscoter will be guest panelist at CUPRAP Fall West Workshop

Cathy Benscoter, marketing and Web specialist, Webmaster, and lecturer in communications at Penn State Beaver, will be a panelist for the video and photography presentation at CUPRAP’s annual Fall West Workshop, Monday, Oct. 10, at the Regional Learning Alliance, Cranberry Township. Panel members will focus on how campuses can use video and photography to maximum effect on a budget.

CUPRAP is a voluntary organization of communications professionals from colleges, universities and independent schools dedicated to advancing the understanding of higher education. It has almost 400 members from 100 institutions across the country.

Last year, Benscoter was one of three Beaver campus members to win CUPRAP’s Gold CUPPIE Award in the Advertising Campaign category for the “Get In On The Secret” campaign which featured personalized postcards and T-shirts packaged as books that were sent to prospective students. She is a member of the Penn State Web Standards and Design Committee which developed and redesigned websites for 15 Penn State campuses earlier this year. In addition, she has been a panel member for workshops conducted during the annual, student-sponsored Communications Day at Beaver.

Benscoter was an adjunct lecturer in communications at Beaver prior to joining the campus full-time in 2009. She spent 18 years working in newspaper design and editing at the Jacksonville Journal-Courier in Illinois and the Beaver County Times and holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from Drake University. In addition, Benscoter has completed coursework in web design at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and is currently working on a master’s degree in media arts and technology at Duquesne University.
