Kimberly Liao recently joined Penn State's University Health Services (UHS) as a community health educator within Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) on Aug. 22. In her position at HPW, Liao will oversee the HealthWorks peer education program and the HIV counseling and testing program.
Liao holds a bachelor's degree in biobehavioral health (BB H) from Penn State and a master's degree in health behavior and health education from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health. During her undergraduate years, Kimberly volunteered with UHS as a peer educator.
Linda LaSalle, associate director of educational services for UHS, said, "We're excited to have Kimberly join the Health Promotion staff. Her background in BB H and public health are a real asset to the department."
"I'm thrilled to return to Penn State and to UHS," Liao said. "HealthWorks is a great program and I look forward to working with students to create a healthier campus."
HealthWorks is a peer education/outreach program that advocates for a healthy Penn State community. The student peer educators conduct a variety of initiatives on health issues affecting college students.
The free and confidential HIV counseling and testing program in HPW is a blood draw program, funded by the PA Department of Health. Pre- and post-test counseling is administered by trained peer interventionists.
