Field hockey's Chrismer named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State freshman standout Jenna Chrismer (Mountain Top, Pa.) has been named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week for her outstanding performances against No. 12 Old Dominion and No. 3 Virginia this past weekend. Chrismer is Penn State's first winner of this award since Kelsey Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa.), who won it back on Oct. 5 of 2009.

Chrismer scored two goals, one in each game against the Monarchs and the Cavaliers. Her first goal came this past Friday when she put the Nittany Lions on the board for the first time this season, 41:29 into the game. Chrismer shot the ball left to right from 10 yards out and buried it to cut into the Old Dominion lead.

Her second goal on Sunday came at the 7:33 mark in the first half, when sophomore Brittany Grzywacz (Collegeville, Pa.) fed a ball to Chrismer from the right corner, where she would capitalize from there. With that goal, Chrismer is tied for the team lead in scoring along with senior Hannah Allison (Mifflinburg, Pa.).

Joining Chrismer for the Freshman of the Week award is Northwestern's Maddy Carpenter. The Nittany Lions will travel to Lock Haven on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Bald Eagles. Penn State's first home game will come on Sep. 4 against UConn. That game will be a Code Blue Blast event, where students can earn points for attending the event. The top 250 point-earners by the end of the school year will receive guaranteed football ticket purchasing opportunities. The top 10 point-earners will receive free football tickets for next year.
