Convocation kicks off academic year

Penn State College of Medicine marks the start of the new school year with its traditional convocation and awards ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Junker Auditorium at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

The annual event recognizes outstanding medical and graduate students for their accomplishments of scholarly excellence, research achievement and participation in humanistic and community activities. This year’s speaker is 2011 Alumni Fellow George J. Todd, the W.A. Wichern Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City.

All Medical Center and College of Medicine faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend the ceremony. Light refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony in the College of Medicine courtyard.
