New Kensington

This week in sports at Penn State New Kensington

The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team returns home for a 4 p.m. conference game against Penn State Beaver on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Coach Jack Adams' team is 3-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference after a 5-1 victory Sept. 17 over visiting Penn State Wilkes-Barre.

Following an away match at Penn State Beaver on Sept. 24, the women's volleyball is back on the court for a PSUAC quad match against Penn State Brandywine at 9 a.m. and Penn State Schuylkill at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, in the Athletics Center. Coach Dave McGeary's Lady Lions are 1-1 in the conference after a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-20) win over Penn State DuBois.

After three tournaments on the road, the golf team is home for the Bernie Guss Classic, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Links at Spring Church. The six-team tournament features the Penn State campuses in the PSUAC-West Division: Greater Allegheny, Fayette, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Penn College and Shenango. The New Kensington Lions are 1-3 in the league after a fourth finish Sept. 19, in the Penn College Invitational at White Deer Golf Course in Williamsport, Pa.

Sophomore Alex Baker took sixth place with an 84 in the individual competition. The fall tournament is named after Bernie Guss, a former New Kensington golf coach. Guss, a resident of Lower Burrell and professor emeritus of engineering at the campus, guided the campus team to four consecutive Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference titles, 1976-79.
