Moore named interim head coach for women's basketball

Tim Moore, assistant coach of the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions basketball team, has been named interim head coach following the announcement that Head Coach Bert DeSalvo has accepted the position of assistant women's basketball coach at Clarion University, effective October 8. Moore has served as the women’s team’s assistant coach for the past three years.

DeSalvo’s departure was announced September 28 by Chris Rizzo, director of student affairs, and Andy Kirschner, athletic director. DeSalvo, who also served as assistant athletic director at Beaver, was the first coach in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) to lead his team to three consecutive titles as well as appearances in four consecutive United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship tournaments.

Moore attended Beaver campus from 1996-1998 during which time he was the captain of the basketball team and received the Robert J. Miklos Memorial Award for his dedication, leadership and excellence, on and off the court.

He began his coaching career at Freedom High School in 2002 as assistant coach for the boys' varsity team. In 2003 he was named assistant coach of the varsity girls’ basketball team at Monaca High School and helped the team reach three WPIAL playoff appearances and a PIAA state playoff appearance. In 2006 Moore was named head coach at Monaca where he led the Lady Indians to two consecutive WPIAL appearances with an overall record of 18-27 and a section record of 15-9.

In 2002 Moore earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Slippery Rock University where he is working on a master’s degree in special education.
