PSFEI receives $3 million U.S. General Services training contract

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEI) has been awarded a $3 million contract from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to provide facilities management training and new course development for all 11 GSA regions around the country.

The PSFEI courses in facilities management training will include topics such as energy efficiency, sustainability and new building technology for building operation and maintenance.

The PSFEI previously worked with the GSA to develop and deliver two courses titled "Facilities Infrastructure Fundamentals Training" and "Fundamentals of High-Performance Buildings."  While delivery of the first two courses continues, a third course titled "Smart Building Operations" will be developed, piloted and then offered along with the first two courses.

GSA employees taking the courses include engineers, property managers, project managers, procurement specialists and energy managers.

James Myers, PSFEI director and principal investigator on the contract, said the courses are taught in person but future online delivery may be developed as part of the contract.
