Haidet receives Honor Society award

October 26, 2011

Paul Haidet, director of Medical Education Research in Penn State College of Medicine, recently was named the 2011 Edward D. Harris Professionalism Award presented by Alpha Omega Alpha, the Honor Society for medical students, residents and physicians.

Alpha Omega Alpha's mission is to recognize and promote excellence in the study and practice of medicine, as well as to develop practices of humanism, leadership and service among physicians. The award emphasizes Alpha Omega Alpha's commitment to its belief that professionalism is a crucial facet of being a physician, a quality that can be both taught and learned.

Haidet (Alpha Omega Alpha, Pennsylvania State University, 1991) received $30,000 funding for his project, "Promoting Professionalism through Reflective Practice and Identity Formation." While Alpha Omega Alpha awards a maximum of three annual Professionalism Awards each year, Haidet was the only one awarded this honor in 2011 from among many submissions.
