Trustees appoint architect for South Halls addition

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State's Board of Trustees on Friday (Nov. 11) approved the appointment of an architect to design an additional residence hall at South Halls on the University Park campus.

Barton Mallow of Baltimore was appointed to design the new building. The same firm was appointed in March to design a renovation to the existing South Halls.

In the process of designing the renovations, available bed spaces in South Halls would be reduced from 1,091 to 1,017. To mitigate the loss, a site adjacent to existing South Halls buildings has been identified for the construction of an additional residence hall. The new building is expected to accommodate 200 beds, resulting in an overall gain of 126 beds.
