WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State to raise funds for breast cancer

December 07, 2011

On Feb. 26, the Penn State Lady Lions basketball team will take on University of Minnesota Gophers for the last home game of the year. But instead of sporting their traditional blue and white uniforms, team members will wear pink in celebration of the team's sixth annual WBCA Pink Zone.

For the past six years, WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State has raised more than $359,000 for breast cancer awareness, research and patient support. In 2011, WBCA Pink Zone donated $53,163 to Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute establishing the Penn State Lady Lion Basketball Endowment that will support novel ideas in breast cancer research.

During Pink Zone 2012, breast cancer survivors are invited to attend the game at no cost (four total tickets provided free of charge), participate in a half-time survivor program and post-game survivor reception. Survivors also will receive free transportation from Hershey to the Bryce Jordan Center compliments of Fullington Trailways. To register, visit PennStateHershey.org/cancer.

Penn State faculty, staff and friends also can support Pink Zone 2012 and purchase a custom-designed 2012 Pink Zone T-shirt (available at the College of Medicine Bookstore, Breast Center, or Cancer Institute Infusion Therapy Room) and specially priced game-day tickets located in the lower level, section 102 of the Bryce Jordan Center. To purchase tickets, visit PennStateHershey.org/cancer.
