Pittsburgh media cover Beaver campus students' candlelight vigil

December 09, 2011

The Penn State Beaver Student Government Association held a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1 in recognition and support of sexual abuse victims of all ages. The vigil, held beside the pond at the Brodhead Cultural Center, was attended by more than 50 students, staff, faculty and members of the community, including Beaver County District Attorney Anthony Berosh. The event was covered that evening by KDKA-TV News, Pittsburgh, and the following morning in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Blue ribbons were given to every attendee to wear, since blue is the color chosen to symbolize sexual abuse. Speakers at the vigil were Jill Marsilio-Colonna, director, Women’s Center of Beaver County; John Chapin, professor of communications at Penn State Beaver; and LaVarr McBride, instructor in administration of justice Penn State's Beaver, New Kensington and Shenango campuses.
