Faculty Senate announces agenda for Jan. 24 meeting

The University Faculty Senate will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, in Room 112 of the Kern Graduate Building on Penn State's University Park campus. The following items will be considered at the meeting:

-- The Senate will vote on two motions made at the Dec. 6 Senate meeting and one motion made at the Jan. 10 Senate Council meeting, concerning the events of the past two months. The motions are included on the Jan. 24 Senate agenda at http://www.senate.psu.edu/agenda/2011-2012/jan2012/jan2012agn.html.

-- The Senate also will vote on a new Senate policy 05-82, minimum entrance requirements for admission to associate degree programs, and on proposed standards for consultation in the instances of proposed curricular changes and of unit organization, reorganization and discontinuation.

-- Presentations will be given on Penn State’s sustainability strategic plan; the status of University construction projects and decision criteria for capital projects; and an update from the Vice Provost for Global Programs.

-- Informational reports will be received on trends and patterns in the use of fixed-term faculty and the National Federation of the Blind’s allegations and Penn State’s response concerning technology accessibility.

-- The following annual reports will be posted on the Senate website: summary of 2010-11 student petitions by college, campus and unit; grade distribution; and reserved spaces program. Other reports include faculty census and a summary of the Senate officers’ fall 2011 campus visits.

Members of the University community are invited to attend this meeting. Any member of the University community not a member of the Senate may request the privilege of the floor on any item of business already before the Senate. Such a request must be made to the chair, through the executive director, at least four days before the meeting at which the individual wishes to speak.
