BALTIMORE -- Penn State men's lacrosse head coach Jeff Tambroni has been named an assistant coach for the 2014 U.S. Men's National Team, US Lacrosse announced Feb. 10.
Tambroni will help lead the U.S. contingent at the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships, to be held July 10-19, 2014, in Denver, Colo. The U.S. Men's National Team will seek its 10th world championship at the event after reclaiming the gold medal at the 2010 FIL World Championships in Manchester, England.
The 2012 season will mark Tambroni's second as Penn State head coach. The 2011 CAA Co-Coach of the Year led the Nittany Lions to a five-win improvement in 2011 and its first-ever CAA tournament berth.
In 2011, eight Nittany Lions garnered All-CAA recognition and then-freshman goalkeeper Austin Kaut earned CAA Rookie of the Year honors while being named a USILA Honorable Mention All-American.
Prior to Penn State, Tambroni spent 10 seasons as head coach at Cornell (2001-10). He guided the Big Red to a 109-40 record and three NCAA Final Four appearances (2007, 2009-10). In 2009, Cornell advanced to the national championship game.
Tambroni was named USILA Division I Coach of the Year following the 2009 season and was tabbed Field Turf/NCAA Division I Coach of the Year in both 2007 and 2009.
While at Cornell, Tambroni became the 10th-fastest coach to reach the 100-win mark when he accomplished the feat in his 134th career game in March 2010.
