Tatum Coffey selected ALC Rookie of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State freshman midfielder Tatum Coffey (Toms River, N.J.) has been selected as the American Lacrosse Conference Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (Feb. 27). She received the award for the first time in her career in recognition of her standout play in Nittany Lion wins over Duquesne and Lafayette.

In a 16-5 home win over Duquesne on February 22, Coffey scored two goals, including the game winner, and added one ground ball and one caused turnover. Versus Lafayette on Sunday, a 14-10 PSU victory, the Toms River, N.J. native netted a game-high four goals, including going 2-for-2 on free position attempts. Coffey also tallied seven draw controls and one ground ball.

In the starting line-up for each of the first four games of the 2012 season, Coffey leads Penn State in goals (9), draw controls (16), and caused turnovers (tie, 6) and ranks second on the team in ground balls (tie, 7) and third in points (tie, 9).

Penn State will start a two-game home stand on Sunday, March 4 when it welcomes No. 10 Virginia (3-0) to Happy Valley for a 1 p.m. contest. The ALC-ACC match-up will either be held outdoors at Penn State Lacrosse Field or indoors at Holuba Hall.
