Faculty Senate releases agenda for March 13 meeting

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The University Faculty Senate will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, in Room 112 of the Kern Graduate Building on the University Park campus. The items below will be considered at the meeting.

-- The Senate will vote on revisions to Senate policies related to nondegree students; limitations to enrollment as a nondegree student; and credit by examination. A vote will also be taken on proposed revisions to the United States Cultures and International Cultures (USIL) requirement.

-- The Senate also will vote on a motion made at the Jan. 24, 2012, Senate meeting. The motion is included on the March 13 Senate agenda at http://www.senate.psu.edu/agenda/2011-2012/mar2012/mar2012agn.html.

-- Vice Provost for Global Programs Michael Adewumi will give an update on the progress the University is making in realizing Penn State’s potential as a global university.

-- The Senate will receive nominations for the three 2012-2013 extra-senatorial standing committees (Faculty Rights and Responsibilities, Standing Joint Committee on Tenure, and University Promotion and Tenure Committee) and nominations for Senate chair-elect, secretary, and faculty advisory committee to the president. Additional nominations may be made from the floor of the Senate; senators making nominations from the floor must have the permission of the person they are nominating.

-- Informational reports will be given on faculty salaries, tenure-flow rates, and the Senate officers' visits to five University Park units in spring 2012. The elections commission will present the roster of Senators by voting unit for 2012-13.

Members of the University community are invited to attend this meeting. Any member of the University community not a member of the Senate may request the privilege of the floor on any item of business already before the Senate. Such a request must be made to the chair, through the executive director, at least four calendar days before the meeting at which the individual wishes to speak.
