Online sustainability course survey launched

Faculty members across all Penn State colleges and campuses who teach sustainability-focused and related courses can now submit their courses and information through the online sustainability course survey. A new version of the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) course survey has been released by the Penn State Center for Sustainability (CfS) and is available to all course instructors. Course information from the survey will be used to determine courses that will contribute to the new Sustainability Leadership Minor and to assess the University’s overall level of engagement in sustainability issues.

The University's minor in sustainability leadership cultivates sustainability literacy and action skills. The online survey, housed on the CfS website, allows instructors to submit their course information at any time. Courses will be added to the expanding list of those that meet the requirements of the Sustainability Leadership Minor. All colleges and campuses will be contributing to the minor.

"The information that faculty provide through this assessment will also help us to share these sustainability-focused and related learning opportunities with the growing numbers of students seeking them out," said David Riley, executive director of the CfS.

The Center is also developing a series of workshops for instructors who would like to integrate and expand sustainability concepts in their courses.

"Faculty members who are interested in developing sustainability-related material for their courses should contact the center," said Susannah Barsom, associate director of the CfS. "We are eager to work with them in developing education for sustainability across the curriculum."
