Evak named Staff Excellence Award winner

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Julie Evak, coordinator of undergraduate education in the College of Communications, has been named the 2012 Staff Excellence Award winner.

Established in 1993, the award recognizes the consistently outstanding performance of a staff member who has demonstrated and practiced the philosophy of continuous quality improvement, team spirit, managerial excellence in the performance of assigned duties and leadership in establishing a quality service orientation, so as to benefit his or her unit and the University.

Evak began working in the College of Communications 12 years ago as a part-time staff assistant. Since then, she has worked in academic services, as staff assistant to the College’s department heads and as administrative assistant to the associate dean of undergraduate education. Her duties include course scheduling, assessment and curricular issues.

“When Julie is in scheduling mode, zipping her mouse’s cursor back and forth between two huge computer screens in her office to land just the right classroom in just the right building at just the right time, it is a sight to behold,” one nominator said. “Julie’s knowledge of the campus, its classrooms and university policies is amazing -- kind of scary, actually.”

Currently, Evak is helping to prepare the College’s multi-volume self-study for its national accreditation review this fall. She also serves on the University’s Academic Scheduling and Reporting System Committee and the Instructional Space Task Force.

“Julie’s worth as an employee in the College of Communications can’t be overstated,” another nominator said. “She can be counted on to initiate projects and to encourage others to stay on task to make sure things get done. From the day she was hired to the present, Julie remains a dependable ‘go to’ person who makes sure ideas and details alike don’t fall through the cracks.”
