Student film festival to take place April 22

A variety of works by student filmmakers will be featured during the Blue & White Film Festival that begins on Sunday, April 22, at the State Theatre in State College, Pa. These short films will run concurrently beginning at 7 p.m.

The festival, presented by the College of Communications and the Student Film Organization, annually showcases the best of student filmmaking at Penn State.

This year 17 films, 11 by seniors and six by juniors, were selected for screening. Seven of the entries are narratives and six are documentaries, with two animated and two experimental films.

"This is the most diverse show we’ve had in some time in terms of content," said Rod Bingaman, a senior lecturer in the Department of Film-Video and Media Studies. "The subject matter ranges from high crime with a tender twist and monsters under the bed to fracking and roller derby."

This is the fifth year that the student film festival will be held at the State Theatre, located at 130 W. College Ave., State College, Pa. Tickets cost $7 for nonstudents, and the Student Film Organization also will be distributing free tickets to Penn State students as the festival draws closer.
