UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's golf team will begin postseason play on Friday (April 27) at the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will last until Sunday (April 29), with 18 holes of play each day. Tee times for the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. each day, with the Nittany Lions teeing off at 10 a.m. on day one.
The tournament, which will be a 6-count-4 format, will be the first neutral site Big Ten Championship and will be played on the par-72, 6,156-yard Donald Ross Course at the French Lick Resort.
"We are looking forward to the championship," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "All the conference teams have had successful seasons, and this should be a great tournament from top to bottom."
Penn State took 10th place at last year's championship, carding a score of 1,247 (321-314-307-305). Looking for their first-ever Big Ten Championship, the Nittany Lions will send the six players with the most rounds played on the team this season. Sophomore Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) will lead the Nittany Lions into the tournament with her 76.3 strokes-per-round average. The Bethany Beach, Del., native tied for 23rd place in last season's championship, the best finish on the team.
Juniors Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) and Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.) will be the two upperclassmen making the trip. The lineup will include three freshmen: Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.), Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) and Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio). Archambault and Elliott are the only two players on the team to have participated in all 26 rounds for Penn State this season. Ransone and Elliott have registered three top-10 finishes a piece this season to lead the team.
Penn State is coming off of a 10th-place finish at the Lady Buckeye Invitational last weekend, which included seven other Big Ten schools. The Lions topped Big Ten opponent Illinois.
All 12 Big Ten schools will be participating. Two of the Big Ten teams are ranked in the top 25 of the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, with Ohio State at No. 19 and Michigan State at No. 23. Michigan State is the defending Big Ten Champion, carding a 1,180 last season.
