Penn State Abington Athletic Director Karen Weaver announced last week that 65 student-athletes earned coveted places on the Director’s List for academic excellence during the Spring 2012 semester.

The students, who represented all 14 Abington varsity teams, completed the semester with grade point averages of 3.0 or higher. Men’s and women’s teams are fielded in basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer and tennis. Baseball, golf, softball and women’s volleyball round out the athletics program.

Penn State Abington is close to achieving full membership in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. Last summer, the NCAA approved the campus' petition to accelerate the process by 12 months, which means Abington’s active NCAA status could begin in September. The process typically takes four years.
