Fayette AD Capozzi named 2012 USCAA Athletic Director of the Year

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — Vince Capozzi, athletic director Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, was recently named the 2012 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Athletic Director of the Year. The award was presented at the 2012 USCAA National Convention held in Virginia Beach, Va.

Capozzi receives the honor in a year where he served as the Tournament Director for the USCAA National Basketball Championships for the fourth straight year and also captured a conference title as an assistant coach for women’s basketball.
 
Penn State Fayette captured two conference championships in 2011-12, as the women’s volleyball program won their fourth consecutive crown and women’s basketball won their first conference title in the program’s five-year history. In the past year, Capozzi has also overseen the addition of Fayette’s ninth intercollegiate sport, wrestling, and has helped increase student-athlete participation to record numbers in 2011-12.
 
Under Capozzi direction, Penn State Fayette has increased its number of Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference All-Academic honorees in each of his five years, including a record 42 in 2011-12. The Roaring Lions also earned a department best five USCAA Academic All-Americans, while 22 Fayette student-athletes were recognized locally or nationally for their academic and athletic achievements over the past year.
 
Capozzi has also helped facilitate the expansion of the USCAA National Basketball Championships to 34 teams in four divisions, while increasing the visibility of the tournament and the Fayette athletic programs in the local community, including a new Fayette athletics website.
